RE: New Truck Towed Beautifully

Now my only concern is the length of the truck and the forest service campgrounds I go to!!
Yup...We were up at Cave CG on Hat Creek last summer. There are some pretty short sites there.
Congrats on the new TV.

Keeping the shine on ABS front cap

What is a good product to keep the ABS front cap shiny. After 1-1/2 years, the cap is starting to get a little dull.
Gotta look good when we arrive in Yellowstone a week from today. :B
Thanks.

RE: Light weight vs. standard quality difference

We had a "Lite" 26' TT. It was a NRV Surf Side Lite. It weighed in at 5500# loaded for a trip. Don't know if that is considered "Lite". The The fit & finish of the interior cabinets and walls was good. Much better than some "Standard" weight TT's we have seen. When we purchased it, we were also looking at a Nash 22H, and the Surf Side had a higher quality interior fit & finish than the Nash. Both units had similar sales pricing. However, the Surf Side had some chronic roof leaks that despite numerous attempts by the dealer and factory to fix, were still a problem when we traded it in for the 5er in sig.
Additionally, "Lite" can also have less insulation R-values in the exterior walls, roof, and floor, which can be uncomfortable when camping in cold weather.

RE: Things to do at Yellowstone

Order up the "Yellowstone Ultimate Trip Planner" here
We did, and it has a lot of great info, maps, DVD, CD, and other stuff. We are arriving July 27th at Bridge Bay CG for a 12 day stay.
Hope that amount of time in-park will allow for an in-depth experience of all the major attractions there.

RE: Forest service campgrounds

If you have a 34ft 5er, I highly recommend you take a day trip to check out a NFS CG prior to taking the 5er there. We mostly camp at NFS CG's with our 28ft 5er. Over the years, we have visited a number of NFS CG's on day trips to check out the sites.

RE: California Drivers license RV endorsement

LOL...All the huffing & puffing about CA's RV Endorsement requirement is "Much ado about nothing". I got mine last winter. Test was easy. Cost was $0.

RE: Generator Etiquette

When dry camping in the summer, I always try to look for a site that allows placing our invertor genset in a location that would minimize noise to the neighbors. I try to notify my camping neigbors that I will be running the genset when it gets warm in the afternoon so my wife can keep cool in the 5er. She has MS, and heat causes her MS to flare up. I have not had one complaint to date.

RE: this didnt happen to me though ?????

On the first trip with 5er in sig, I went to dump at the end of trip, and found out the all 3 dump valves had been in the open position for the entire time. Boy that stuff sure rushes out the pipe when the cap is removed. Apparently, the dealer left them in the open position after the PDI. I can only blame myself for not checking them prior to the trip.

Gas grill use in bear country

Will be leaving in 3 weeks for a 12 night stay at Bridge Bay CG in Yellowstone NP. I want to take the portable gas grill along, but my brother says that might not be a good idea, because of the grease left over in the gas grill after use might become a bear magnet.
Anyone had problems with gas grills attracting bears?

RE: GPS lady goes berzerk!

We call our Garmin Nuvi 360 "Gravel Gertie". She got the hick-ups once on a trip last year, and kept repeating "Off-route, recalculating" in quick succession, until I thumped her. She got back on-route after I thumped her.
She pronounces some street/road names a little different, ie; "Comanche" as "Co-manch"

RE: CHP and Towing Violations on CA Highways

I've never been stopped, but last month at a truck show, I asked a CHP Commercial officer what determines max allowable weight on a TV. He told me tire load ratings and/or GAWR determines max allowable weight, not GVWR, in CA.
So with my TV, I can legally load the rear axle up to 6084# in CA. My last scale weight w/5er attached was front=4110#, rear=4960#.

RE: July 1st another stupid, ill thought out California Law!

I believe the hands free law in CA is a good thing. Almost got hit a couple of weeks ago by a person merging unto the freeway, talking on the cell phone and not paying attention to the traffic in the outside lane.
So why is it that California is such a great place to live?.....
Lets see....2 hours drive east gets me to 7000' in the High Sierra. 2 hours drive west puts me on the Pacific coast. 2 hours drive south gets me to Fresno....oh no !!:B

RE: I-80 from Reno to Sacremento

Denn0007,
The most informative reply to your question was posted by Litch.
Yeah...the road is a little rough in spots, but your RV is not going to shake apart, or have cabinets fall off, etc.
I've towed between Sacramento & Reno many times over the years, and will continue to do so in the future.
Enjoy your visit to Sacramento.

RE: $8000 TV???

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I purchased a very expensive Bosch Dishwasher from the Filco Fulton Ave store 5 years ago. I felt like I was dealing with a used car sales person. They got snippy with me because I wouldn't purchase an extended warranty. I probably won't shop there again, but the dishwasher still works great.
